Klaviyo is a top email marketing platform trusted by ecommerce businesses for its advanced segmentation, automation, and integrations. It is also Shopify Plus's recommended email marketing tool – although that could be partly due to Shopify’s 11.2% ownership stake in the company. Nevertheless, Klaviyo has proven to be a popular choice for merchants looking to maximize their marketing potential with a platform tailored to ecommerce needs.

With a pricing structure designed for scalability, Klaviyo offers options for everyone – from email marketing beginners to enterprise-level users. It provides accessible entry points for small businesses while supporting larger organizations with its advanced feature set and integrations.

That said, there is one email marketing platform that we would say offers even better value for money when it comes to ecommerce – we’ll share which one a little further in this pricing guide.

In the meantime, keep reading as we break down Klaviyo’s plans and pricing, compare them with ecommerce alternatives like Omnisend and Mailchimp, and finally, help you decide which plan best fits your ecommerce store.

Klaviyo Pricing Summary

  • Klaviyo offers a Free plan for businesses with up to 250 active profiles, allowing for 500 email sends and 150 SMS/MMS credits per month. Email support is available for the first 60 days.
  • The Email plan starts at $20/month for 251-500 active profiles and includes 5,000 monthly email sends, 150 SMS/MMS credits, and email/chat support.
  • For businesses needing SMS alongside email, the Email + SMS plan starts at $35/month for 251-500 active profiles. It includes 1,250 SMS/MMS credits, mobile push notifications, and email/chat support.
  • Klaviyo’s Enterprise plan offers custom pricing for large organizations, providing advanced segmentation, automation, and priority support.

Note: Pricing increases with the number of active profiles and email/SMS send volume.

Klaviyo Pricing Breakdown by Active Profiles

Active Profiles Free Plan Email Plan Email + SMS Plan

500 Profiles $20/month $35/month
1,000 Profiles $30/month $45/month
3,000 Profiles $70/month $85/month
10,000 Profiles $150/month $165/month
50,000 Profiles $72o/month $735/month

Note: An active profile in Klaviyo is any profile that can be emailed. This excludes unsubscribed, suppressed, or inactive profiles, unlike some competitors (like Mailchimp) who charge for inactive contacts.

Marketing Prices and Plans in Detail

All of Klaviyo’s pricing plans come with email, and you can choose to add SMS to your plan. You may increase email or SMS independently. As we mentioned, all features are available across all plans, this is what the plans look like side by side:

Overall, Klaviyo offers quite reasonable prices for those with smaller contact lists. However, as your subscriber list grows (50k+ contacts), it becomes one of the more pricier options. In my opinion, if you consider the quality and the features you get with Klaviyo, the investment might actually be worth it.

With Klaviyo, you won’t have to pay extra for CRM, automations, AI tools, SMS marketing, or ecommerce features. Having access to all these add-ons together inside Klaviyo can actually save you money in the long run.

Klaviyo charges based on the number of active contacts in your account. If you exceed your contact limit, your campaigns and automation will also be paused. This is a much better approach than the likes of Mailchimp for example, who charge for inactive contacts. You can manually adjust your contact limit in the Billing section.

What Does Klaviyo’s Free Plan Include?

Klaviyo offers a free plan that includes email support for the first 60 days. You can create an account, import and sync your data, customize templates and emails, and use many of Klaviyo’s features for free.

The send limit is 500 emails to up to 250 active profiles. You will also get 150 SMS credits. Once you exceed that limit, you’ll be asked to upgrade.

Klaviyo Price Increase: How Does it Affect Me?

You might have read a few complaints online from Klaviyo customers about its latest pricing changes. The thing is, Klaviyo isn’t actually increasing its prices - but it is changing how it calculates what you pay.

Before February 2025, customers only paid based on the number of contacts they actively emailed each month, even if they had a much larger database of subscribers.

Now, you’ll be billed based on your total number of active profiles - meaning all subscribed contacts in your account, whether you’ve emailed them recently or not. If your active profiles exceed your plan’s limit, you’ll be automatically moved to the next tier at the start of your next billing cycle.

Will this affect you? If you're a new customer, you won't notice any difference, as these changes are relevant to existing customers only. However, if you're an existing customer, the extent to which you'll be impacted depends on how many active profiles you have:

  • If you regularly email all your active profiles, your bill shouldn’t increase.
  • If you have a lot of subscribers you don’t email, you may see a price hike.

Some long-time Klaviyo customers with large databases will receive an “appreciation discount” to help with the transition, which caps any price increase at 25%. This will be applied automatically and continues indefinitely as long as customers remain on an eligible plan.

As a Klaviyo customer, the best way to deal with this is to stay proactive. That means keeping an eye on your active profile count in Klaviyo, cleaning up your list to suppress inactive or engaged contacts, and making sure you're always on the right pricing tier.

Klaviyo Pricing vs Competitors: Omnisend, Mailchimp, and More

Let’s see how Klaviyo's pricing structure compares to its competitors:

Omnisend:

Omnisend is a strong competitor to Klaviyo, especially for ecommerce-focused businesses, offering some unique features that Klaviyo lacks. One of the most attractive things about it is its price tag – it charges a fraction of what Klaviyo does for similar features and contact limits.

  • Pricing: Starts at $16/month for 500 contacts; $282/month for 25,000 contacts with up to 300,000 emails. In comparison, Klaviyo’s pricing for 25,000 contacts starts from $400/month with up to 250,000 monthly email sends.
  • Features: Includes SMS, push notifications, and landing page builders, which Klaviyo does not offer.
  • Advantages: Omnisend is more affordable for businesses with larger contact lists and provides versatile tools like landing pages.
  • Free Plan: Generous, offering access to nearly all features with limited sending allowances.

Mailchimp:

In our opinion, Mailchimp falls short of Klaviyo’s capabilities, making it better suited for small businesses or beginners who prioritize simplicity over more advanced features.

  • Pricing: Starts at $13/month, making it slightly cheaper than Klaviyo for smaller businesses with basic needs.
  • Features: While it lacks Klaviyo’s deep ecommerce integrations, Mailchimp excels in ease of use and basic campaign creation.
  • Advantages: Ideal for small-scale businesses due to its simplicity and affordability, but it doesn’t match Klaviyo’s advanced ecommerce tools.
  • Free Plan: Klaviyo’s free plan stands out by offering advanced features, making it more valuable for businesses ready to scale.

ActiveCampaign:

ActiveCampaign is renowned for its advanced automation capabilities and flexible pricing structures, making it a worthy alternative to Klaviyo.

  • Pricing: Starts at $19/month, scaling based on the number of contacts and features needed.
  • Features: Offers superior automation, detailed segmentation, comprehensive reporting, and built-in integrations.
  • Advantages: Ideal for businesses prioritizing automation. However, deep ecommerce integrations are limited to higher-tier plans.
  • Free Plan: Unlike Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign does not offer a free plan.

Klaviyo Reviews

Since most customers prefer purchasing products that have product reviews from buyers, ecommerce email marketing platforms have started channeling more focus into collecting these written reviews from your customers.

Klaviyo offers this as a rather expensive add-on feature, which is called “Klaviyo Reviews”. To start collecting these reviews automatically, you’ll be looking at spending at least an additional $25 per month. Other email marketing platforms like Omnisend include this feature in their plans without extra cost.

Klaviyo Reviews Pricing:

  • $25: 250 max monthly orders
  • $90: 1,000 max monthly orders
  • $175: 2,000 max monthly orders
  • $300: 3,500 max monthly orders
  • $500: 10,000 max monthly orders

Klaviyo CDP

For those of you looking to store, manage, analyze, and activate your customer data more efficiently, Klaviyo offers its own Customer Data Platform. However, it's definitely aimed at enterprise-level customers, with plans starting at a whopping $500/month for 100k profiles.

• Prices are based on the total number of stored email profiles within your account
• Currently available to Klaviyo customers with a paid plan

Dedicated IP Addresses

Klaviyo offers dedicated IP addresses, which allow the reputation of the IP address to be influenced only by the single account using it.

Under Klaviyo’s guidelines, existing and new customers who wish to start using a dedicated IP must first complete the following steps:

  • Suspend any third-party affiliate marketing being conducted elsewhere.
  • Update, refresh, or pause any poorly performing email templates.
  • Clean your email lists to remove unengaged profiles and invalid email addresses.

For further details on eligibility for a dedicated IP, customers should contact their Customer Success Manager. Unfortunately, pricing or plan information is not available online.

Klaviyo Pricing: Conclusion

Klaviyo is a great option for small to medium-sized ecommerce stores looking to step up their email marketing game. With powerful segmentation tools, advanced automation, and a strong selection of integrations tailored to ecommerce, it’s a platform designed to help businesses grow. Its attractive feature set makes creating personalized marketing campaigns super easy, offering incredible value for brands focused on scaling.

The free plan is a great way to get started; however, it’s important to note that costs can increase significantly as your contact list grows beyond 50,000 profiles. For those working with tighter budgets, options like Omnisend might be worth exploring as a more affordable email marketing alternative.

Ready to see what Klaviyo can do for your business? Their free plan is the perfect starting point to explore its features and determine if it’s the right fit for your goals.
